CROSSROADS COMMUNITY CHURCH
Position: Director of Children’s Ministry

Basic Function
The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for the overall leadership of the children’s ministry (Crossroads Kids) from infants through 5th grade. This person has a passion and love for children that drives them to accomplish the mission of Crossroads Kids -helping children connect with God and others at the crossroads of life.
Specific Ministry Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Serving Team Development
- Responsible for leading the leaders in Crossroads Kids by encouraging, coaching, challenging, and personally investing in their lives and assisting them in their vital roles.
- Provides training on a regular basis for team of leaders and serving teams.
- Plans for and leads regular meetings with the ministry leadership team.
- Continually reinforces to our serving teams how important their role is in impacting the faith of our children.
- Oversees the recruitment of serving team members in Crossroads Kids by working with leaders to coach them and assist them on recruitment issues.
- Responsible for teaching leaders and serving team members within Crossroads Kids how to lead children to a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Vision Refinement and Implementation
- Is the chief vision caster for the Crossroads Kids ministry and acts as the champion of the ministry for the church.
- Trains leaders to cast vision with their serving teams in an effective and passionate manner.
- Ensures that the curriculum is Biblically sound and that it assists us in accomplishing the mission and vision.
- Partnering with Parents
- Provides parents with assistance in the spiritual upbringing of their children.
- Research parenting resources to provide to families.
- Develops ways for our Sunday morning program to better reach into the homes of our families in order to reinforce key learnings at home.
- Lovingly addresses parental concerns/criticism while ensuring that the mission and vision of Crossroads Kids is not compromised.
- Ensures that parents understand Crossroads’ expectation that parents of children regularly attending Crossroads Kids each serve in our Next Gen ministries for the long-term sustainability of the ministry.
- Other Responsibilities
- Leads the planning, oversight, and execution of our summer outreach, Wize N Up.
- Proposes and manages the Crossroads Kids budget.
- Manages the systems that ensure the security and safety of the children in the ministry.
- Oversees the Crossroads Kids administrative assistant.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Staff Pastor.
Personal Qualifications Required:
- Must maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer, and time spent contemplating God’s Word.
- Must live according to the qualifications for ministry leaders in 1 Timothy 3.
- Approachable and relatable for the church congregation, is someone they will want to go to for Biblical counsel.
Strengths, Giftedness, Experience, & Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Strong grasp of Scripture and Biblical principles.
- Clear and previously demonstrated love and passion for children and families.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and is willing to continue to develop as a leader.
- Organizational and administrative skills.
- Creativity and flexibility to adapt as needed.
- Comfortable with recruiting and training of serving team members.
- Possesses a shepherd’s heart and has clearly demonstrated this through past actions.
- Understands ministry is not a “9 to 5 job” and is willing to dedicate a minimum of two nights per week to ministry related activities. Night demands are balanced with flexibility that is present with the position to promote a healthy work/life balance.
- Actively lives out and models for the church a strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Crossroads.
- Agrees fully with the Converge Affirmation of Faith and Crossroads Community Church Statement of Faith.
- Believes in and has submitted to Believer’s baptism following their commitment to Christ.
- Comfortable and willing to lovingly challenge leaders, serving team members, or church members as needed when issues arise as well as admitting their own mistakes.
- Commits to resolve conflict via Biblical guidelines spelled out in Matthew.
- Regardless of areas of giftedness, must still have a heart for outreach.
- Basic software skills are required. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Prior vocational children’s ministry experience and education is not required. However, any candidate must demonstrate how they have been actively involved in the ministries of their local church and speak to why they believe it has prepared them for this role. They should also be prepared to speak to their plan for pursuing further education if they have not yet done so.
Relationships and Contacts:
- Reports to the Staff Pastor.
- Works closely with the Crossroads Kids Ministry Leaders.
- Works closely with other staff members.
- Oversees the Crossroads Kids Administrative Assistant.
- Reports out to the Senior Pastor and Elder Team as requested.
- Works with outside contacts to continually examine and improve the effectiveness of Crossroads Kids.
Time Commitment:
- Full time position of 40 + base hours per week. Hours will be a combination of office hours, weekend, and evening hours. Nights and weekend hours are driven by needs of the ministry.
